21st annual event is "Back In Stride Again!"

November 27, 2013 (Lexington, Kentucky) The African American Forum, Inc. (AAF) is pleased to announce that the 21st Annual African American Ball (AAB) will be presented on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown, which has been designated the Official Host Hotel for this regional event held annually that celebrates art, culture and entertainment from the African American Experience.

"So many of our patrons told us that twenty (20) years of Art, Culture and Education can't come to an end" said John E. Cole III, President and CEO of the AAF.  "We're so happy to be "Back In Stride Again!'"  This year's gala will include a festive Pre-function reception, a spectacular Opening Ceremony featuring BCB & Company, the brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, R&B and Classic Soul Music courtesy of Old School Entertainment, LLC, plenty of dancing and a special guest appearance by Shirley Strawberry, co-host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show.

Steve Harvey emphatically states that Shirley Strawberry has "the best voice in radio."  Strawberry started her career in Chicago as co-host of "The Doug Banks Show," then was offered a spot on "The Beat," KKBT-FM, in Los Angeles.  After Radio One purchased the station, she accepted the co-host position for Steve Harvey's new local radio show which was #1 from 2000 to 2005.  The show later moved to New York City, becoming a #1 local show there before becoming nationally syndicated to more that sixty (60) markets, with nearly eight million listeners.  For more than a decade, she's sat side by side with Steve, while enjoying the pleasure of listeners across the country falling in love with the show's "Strawberry Letter" segment.  During this segment, Shirley and Steve offer advice to listeners who have sent in letters about there woes in life.  The phenomenal success of the segment led to a best-selling book based on the letters from the show... The Strawberry Letter: Real Talk, Real Advice, Because Bitterness Isn't Sexy.

Tickets are scaled at $35 for Patron Seating and $60 for VIP seating, which includes a Pre-function meet and greet experience with Shirley Strawberry.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting the AAF at 859.255.2653 or online at  Net proceeds will benefit the Arts Partnership Program and the African American Forum Endowment Fund.   

In addition to the festivities on Saturday, the AAF will host a Ladies Night Out with Shirley Strawberry on Friday January 17th at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown, featuring a reading and book signing of The Strawberry Letter: Real Talk, Read Advice Because Bitterness Isn't Sexy.  More details will be announced at a later date.
